19th Caspian International
Transport, Transit and Logistics exhibition
22 - 24 June 2021 • Baku Expo Center
As is tradition, exhibition organiser Iteca Caspian has supported the development of hand-craftsmanship for many years. A surprise to visitors is the exhibition of works from Azerbaijani master Rovshan Ansari. He was a professional coach and master of sports in freestyle wrestling when around fifteen years ago, he suddenly became interested in ship modelling. Not only does he construct models of ships of different classes, but he also collects historical models of famous locomotives, aircrafts and other vehicles.
Why this "sudden" change? Many forms of creative expression were considered a hereditary factor of his family. The ability to paint, embroider tapestries, weave carpets, and create graphics is transferred from generation to generation. Embodied in Rovshan they make for a wonderful hobby. By the way, his children are already following in the footsteps of the Master, as they have already started at pre-school age to understand the secrets of modelling.
While working on his next model, he is required to professionally master handling the wood, skins, putty, paint, drill, solder, as well as understand rigging and non-ferrous metals, and explore precious woods such as Venetian birch and red maple. It is necessary to have solid tools. Though Rovshan has around seventy different tools, he has only one pair of tweezers. Many exhibits of his collection and unique models are part of private collections, kept in the homes of enthusiasts.
He is not just passionate about his work, and dedicates himself completely to the hard work each model requires. There are models of ships, counting nearly nineteen thousand parts. The assembly of such an artefact can take up to five years, and it is necessary to strictly follow the schematics. Today, these interesting works will appear before a large audience for the first time. The exhibition includes demonstration models of ships of different classes, ages and countries of origin, as well as different models of locomotives and aircrafts.
