Odessa has hosted a meeting of the Coordinating Committee for the Development of the South-West International Transport Route.

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC reports that the Coordinating Committee discussed strategic issues concerning the South-West route, as well as prospects for its development.

"As a result of the discussions, it was decided to expand cooperation within the South-West transport route, which will serve to optimize transportation towards India-Persian Gulf-Iran-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Ukraine-Europe and increase the transit potential of the project participants," the report says.

The message says that it was also decided to study the possibility of using common tariff preferences for the goods transported along this route by member-countries.

The route project provides container transportation from India and the countries of the Persian Gulf to European countries (and back) via Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, and Poland. The participants of the meeting approved the draft Regulations of the Coordination Committee for the Development of the South-West International Transport Route, drawn up by Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.

The South-West route is divided into sections Slavkov-Paromnaya (1,364 km), Paromnaya-Batumi (1,050 km), Batumi-Baku-Astara (982 km) and Astara-Bandar Abbas (1,915 km).
