Chairman of Azerbaijani Railways (ADY) Javid Gurbanov and CEO of Iranian Railways Said Mohammadzade signed in Baku an agreement on the construction and operation of Astara loading & unloading terminal via route North-South.

According to ADY, the agreement says of construction of four terminals on the Iranian territory with the support of Azerbaijan Railways. With this purpose, ADY takes on lease 1.4 km of Iran’s railway tracks for 15 years and terminals for 25 years.

The loading & unloading terminal is needed due to the fact that the Iranian side has a 150-km gap in the North-South railroad track – before the construction of railway line Qazvin-Rasht is finished the cargo will be transported by road.
